A quote from the book i'm editing: "A lie is a lie is a lie is a lie. Unless of course you believe it, then it's a story." (LaPointe, 2006).

How. Interesting.

Literal-ture

>> Sunday, February 18, 2007

I have a few great new ideas for books i'd like to write. The first of which is a sci-fi/fantasy/political/anthro novel about a seemingly self-sufficient society in which the pre-disposition for feeling anger comes about as a new genetic mutation. I'm thinking of some sterility and control leading to personal questioning and death, a la Brave New World, with some underlying anarchist tones which i know has already been done.

The next of which is an account of yoga as therapy for my depression. In the past week, i've worked at the yoga studio every day. So that's 7 days in all, and in those 7 days, i have taken 3- 1.5 hr long classes and 1- 3 hr long workshop, for a total of 7.5 hours. If i pretended to actually know how to get averages, i would say that's about 1.33333 (repeating of course) hours a day. Since i don't know how to average, i'm sure that number is not correct, but let's just assume it is so that i can finish my post. I can already see that doing yoga has had an immediate and stunning effect on me. I have been more calm, started eating better, gotten amazing sleep, been less PMS-y annoyable/cranky/short-tempered, and have not taken my dep meds once.

So to all of you out there: Fight the power, think for yourself, say what you want, buy my books when they come out, rock on.
To some brown guy yogi who's art is helping to change my life: Word.
And to Isidore: I think i left it in the bottom drawer. In the back. Try there, and if it's not there, deal with it on your goddamn own instead of bugging me so effing early in the morning by calling me back never.

Tricep killer.

I cannot relate to the common man how much pain i am in after my yoga workshop except to say: ARGGGGGGGGGGAHAMANANAFHEEE!!!

In other news, Evan got a laptop, i got a Sandman first edition (signed by Neil Gaiman) from the Illiad, some curry coconut chocolates, and some old books from my childhood.

Evan is currently rocking boston on guitar hero. |..|

I think i strained my neck last night in Kelley's class. Pooh. Luckily i got a lovely amount of sleep at Evan's, and i've been having strange hamburger cravings lately. I think i need a tomato/basil garden burger...STAT!

Going to a cool yoga workshop tomorrow after work entitled "Yoga & Chocolate". We're going to be doing awesome poses, and sampling exotic chocolate (like curry and coconut) learning about happiness in the moment.

Expect me home late sat night. Plans anyone?

I am on my way to becoming a copy editor! I have my first assignment (i'm editing for free), in response to my craigslist ad.

It's this awesome mock self help book based within Chaos Theory. Should take me about 6 weeks to finish it, as the writer is already pretty good. This is so exciting!!!

In other news, happy V day, or "singles awareness day" as many Los Angeleans have deemed it. Can't wait for dinner tonight at Cafe Bizou in Old Town, and since we just got cubivore, it's going to be a good night.

Working at m80 again today, poor receptionist, caught in jury duty since last week! Luckily i get off at 4:30 for Vday plans, and it's some extra money for the time being. I also got to snarf a red velvet (my fav!!!) cupcake. It wasn't vegan, but i did take some of the cream cheese frosting off, although i'm sure the cake had eggs in it.

No toast for a while, i need to get up earlier or set the toaster on auto timer. Wow, that would be way obsessive!

Children of Yoga

>> Tuesday, February 13, 2007

I got a new job! I am now working at the Yoga House as a receptionist. This place is crazy chill! You walk in and there's a faint smell of incense in the air, hardwood floors, soft music and lantern light, reaaaaaaly awesome.

There's free tea (in sake cups) and bowls of apples, yogi everything, and your first class is free! The teachers are all really nice and as an employee i get yoga classes for free as well, as many as i want!!!

I also saw Children of Men recently. I wouldn't say i loved it, but it was pretty good. Neat idea, wished they had gotten into the scientific aspect of women not being able to reproduce, but they just left it as "scientists can't figure out why...". But it was easier to accept that way and just pay attention to the rest of the story.

Good cinematography, i have been in love with Clive Owen since i saw him in Sin City. Deeeee-licious. That man looks so good covered in dirt and blood. MmmMMMMM! Great acting, but i'm sad that a few people died that i didn't want to die. So overall : B/B+...

In other news, there's a kid who's been trying to cross the street in front of m80 who's been standing for about 10 minutes waiting for traffic to subside, instead of using the light crosswalk about 20 feet away. RTard.

Everyone needs to get the hell away from me.

We all know how easily The Toast contracts sickness, what with my rich nougat center and all, and everyone around me is sick.

Stuart is really sick, or was the last time i checked.
Evan is fairly sick.
Nico is getting there.

And all i can do is walk around with some lysol and a cross while i twiddle my thumbs and pop ritalin as i wait to hear if we have an apartment yet.

Jeebuz i am tizired.

Commence da jigglin'!

{{{THIS POST WAS SAVED AS A DRAFT BACK AT MY OLD JOB, I AM POSTING IT ONLY CAUSE I WORKED HARD ON THOSE LINKS, AND IT'S EDUCATIONAL!}}}

Because it's friday! And it couldn't have come at a better time, when i feel the cold germs slowly winning the war for supremacy of my sinuses.

However, the jigglin' level is pretty low right now as i am really REALLY tired from the week. The phone is still MIA somewhere in Little Tokyo (we think), parents are less pissed, but i did spend one evening sitting in the cold and rain (listening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, which made for a f*cking depressing combination!) so that may explain the congestion pain in my right ear.

So there's nothing i like more than reaching into the sink at work, to check that there's no utensils before i run the disposal, and getting 3 large honking egg yolks in my hand. Egg yolks that had been sitting there, festering for 2 days courtesy of my overly-paranoid coworkers.

The ladies i work with, all i can say, is that they're very old fashioned and, in some cases, more naive than i. They are still of the mind that eating egg yolks is bad for you. Silly silly women. Now, anyone who's done the research, can see that eggs are acutally beneficial to the body, in moderation of course. This same conclusion can be obtained by watching The Simpsons Episode[2F09] entitled "Homer the Great" when Lenny goes all egg-ucational:
"Lenny: Pfft, forget it, Homer. While it has been established that eggs
contain cholesterol, it has not yet been proven conclusively that
they actually raise the level of serum cholesterol in the human
blood stream.
Homer: So one of those Egg Council creeps got to you too, huh?"

But i digress... In short, it was gross, and that's all i gotta say about that!

Still Workless...

And not happy about it.

While this time off has done wonders for my cooking (i made 5 dozen gyoza the other day!), it has been brutal on my bank account (which i am trying to keep up for the anticipated move). Luckily i had a small buffer, since i kinda foresaw leaving ACS (though not so abruptly), but i cannot allow myself to rely on that alone.

Plus, i like working... for the most part. And after applying to every single friggin' job i could possibly qualify for (with minimal embellishment on my part), i've realized that an office is really the way to go.

Funny that. I've been dreading the "office life" for my whole existence, as most people are wont to do. TV has taught us that offices are either a)scary, mundane places which ever so slowly suck the dwindling life out of your minds, silently kicking and screaming the whole way, or b)a sex driven water-cooler gossip-fest and have you SEEN cheryl in accounting lately? She has gotten F-A-T!

But in actuality, i enjoy the stability of it all. Sure, that's what i say now, then when i have it i am pissed that said stability takes up too much time and i need more spontaneous free time. There is just no pleasing me i swear!

So i am temping for Nico's work right now, regular receptionist had jury duty, so it's pretty typical: answer phones, make nice nice, take messages, endlessly surf the net... All i have to say is Money In The Bank. Word.

So i posted an ad on craigslist, check it out.
No bites yet, but since it's FREE i hope to get something!

~The Toast
