I'd really like to not be....

Congested. It makes working a WHOLE lot harder in my honest opinion. I got random people calling for billing and asking me if i'm ok "because you sound like you were crying". Super sweet, but embarassing!

Oh well. Ratatouille (the dish not the movie, though the movie is AMAZING too) has made being slightly sickly a whole lot easier. Left out the eggplant, and subbed a red potato in as thickener. YUM!

Picked up a mess of art supplies at the expo, mostly stuff for oil painting so i can play around. However, if you dabble AT ALL in watercolors, pick yourself up some Aquabords, they're well worth your time.

Ok enough ramblings.

I do think...

I'm going just a little insane.
Everything has been twice as hard as it usually is today. GRR, is what i say to that.
I really think that most problems in the world stem from lack of communication.
That also happens to be a pet peeve of mine.
Let's work on it, things will get just that much better.

Fantastical Dinner! (and dessert)

>> Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Ok so, I love Real Food Daily with all my heart! It was my fondest wish for my friends to join me there for my birthday dinner.

The first time I went to RFD was on a drive-by whim with Evan. The table over, I saw a girl eating a wrap and instead of a tortilla or flatbread, there was a collard green leaf keeping all of her numblies in. The seed of collard wraps was planted in my brain.

I was perusing YouTube when I got the craving... that's right, for raw vegan flourless chocolate caek. But, I knew I didn't have very many walnuts and I realized that I only had TWO mejool dates left. So I had to improvise and make a smaller caek. Here's what I ended up with:

Dusted with powdered sugar, it was just enough to satisfy the craving. After eating my dessert first, I then went on to dinner and whipped up some mexican rice. But wait, WOAH, hold on. What if, WHAT IF, I take that rice and wrap it in a collard leaf? Maybe I de-veined the leaf first with a paring knife? And maybe, just maybe, what would happen if I added some leftover herbed cream cheese and sliced green onions???

Then what would happen if I rolled it???

collard wrap in hand

Then WTF would happen if I took a bite!? Just one amazing bite....

The rest was history. Crunchy, warm, spiced, slightly bitter, creamy, delicious.... From now on I WILL wrap everything and anything in a collard green leaf.

Oh yeah here's the recipe for the Raw Vegan Flourless Chocolate Caek:

2 mejool dates, pitted
small handful of walnuts
extra small pinch of sea salt
smallest splash of vanilla extract
1 tbsp cocoa powder

1) Pulse the crap outta everything in a small food processor, or *ahem* Magic Bullet, till smooth and dreamy. Push together in somewhat of a caek-y shape. CONSUME!!!

Cold weather

means pasta for me. For those of you who know me best, you know that i really don't like italian pasta very much. It makes me feel... well... BLEH after i eat it.

However, when the weather goes below 75 degrees, i want the heartiness and tooth of great pasta.

For your enjoyment, last night's psketti. Which was actually fettuccine, but whatever.

Teehee!

So, I got a great girl compliment today.

Lately I've been trying to take more care in the way I look like making sure my hair is ironed and nice-looking, my clothes aren't raggety, I have a smidge of makeup on so I don't look so flushed out, etc. A coworker came up to me this morning and said she hated me because she bet I just rolled out of bed, got in the shower, got out and had my hair look just right. After telling her that I look like an angry frizzy cat in the morning, have to use a smoothing serum and pin iron my hair so straight, she said she hated me less.

Granted, I did wake up a little earlier in order to get my makeup done just so, my hair did, and clothes coordinated more than usual, but wow... it's so nice for other people to notice when you think you look good.

So far, the strange happy feelings from friday have carried over the weekend and into this week. I hope it lasts!

Marina eyeliner from Bare Escentuals.

The girl in Sephora may have used the smashbox creme eyeliner in navy on me, but B.E. has never done me wrong.

That with Smoked Clay for contour gives me the most simple slightly smokey eye look.
